Device time and clock accuracy
Understand what a browser clock can show, and how to check an incorrect time.
A clock can display seconds without independently knowing the correct time. ClockWithSeconds reads your device clock. It formats that value for display and for other cities, but it does not synchronize your computer with an external reference.
Start with the symptom
If the minutes look right but the hour is wrong, compare the selected time zone on your device with the place you intend to use. If both the device and this website are several minutes off, the source clock needs checking. Refreshing the page cannot correct a wrong system time.
Compare independent sources
- Open the device's date and time settings and review whether automatic time and time-zone options are appropriate.
- Compare with an independent reference such as time.gov. Comparing two browser pages that both read the same device clock does not give an independent check.
- If automatic synchronization is enabled but the time remains wrong, use your operating system's support instructions. Managed computers may require an administrator to change the setting.
- Return to this site after correcting the device and confirm that the displayed hour, date and zone make sense together.
Why a visible tick may arrive late
A browser schedules screen updates alongside other work. The next update can be delayed by a busy page, background restrictions or a sleeping device. The clock reads the current device time again when execution resumes; it is not a chain of perfectly spaced physical ticks. A stopwatch with hundredths on screen is likewise not automatically accurate to a hundredth.
Choose the appropriate use
A readable desk clock and a projected classroom clock are useful without being precision instruments. For official timing, synchronization or calibration, use equipment and references intended for those tasks. For ordinary screen use, open the large digital clock; for a scheduled event in another city, use the date-aware converter.
