Classroom Timer

Give an activity a visible finish

Add a short activity label, select a duration and open fullscreen before presenting the timer. A label such as “Read the question, then discuss in pairs” keeps the task visible beside the remaining time. The label stays in this page only and is not added to a shared preset link.

A ten-minute group activity

1. Set the label to the activity's outcome, such as “Agree on two reasons and choose a speaker.”
2. Choose ten minutes and explain what learners should have ready at the end.
3. Test the sound at a comfortable volume before starting. The visible completion message also works when sound is muted.
4. Pause if the whole class needs clarification. Resume when everyone is ready.
5. Reset for the next group, or choose a new duration after stopping.

Make the display accessible

Check the projection from the back of the room. Fullscreen removes browser distractions but does not prevent the computer from sleeping. Read the instructions aloud when appropriate; a visual countdown alone may not be accessible to everyone. Adapt the duration to the activity and learners rather than treating a preset as a fixed rule.

Device limitations

Keep the browser open and the device awake. Test sound on the actual classroom speakers, not just headphones used during preparation. Background suspension can delay completion sounds.
